Sugared cranberries and rosemary

Did you know that bakers have a little secret they use to make sure their cakes have a perfectly moist texture and incomparable flavor? Well, they do and that secret is more simple than you’re probably thinking it is. The secret to keeping cakes and cupcakes moist and flavorful is in this simple Cake Syrup! Now, I know what you might be thinking: “Cake syrup? What is that and what does it actually do?” I’m happy to inform you that it is a simple, flavored syrup that you drizzle on top of cakes or cupcakes once they have cooled down after baking.

By adding this simple cake syrup step, it ensures that your cake holds in that moist texture and has peak flavor, especially in homemade bundt cakes. This will make your homemade cakes taste much closer to that irresistible bakery-style! This cake syrup is incredibly easy to make and it greatly enhances baked treats and pastries for that melt-worthy dessert experience. Ready to take your homemade desserts to the next level? Then let’s get started!

To make a simple cake syrup, all you need is: sugar, water, flavored extract, a saucepan, silicone spatula, and a squeeze bottle. Just combine all of the ingredients in the saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir the mixture until all of the sugar has dissolved. Then, cool the syrup completely before pouring it into a squeeze bottle. Drizzle the cake syrup over a cooled bundt cake or other pastry.

How to Make an Easy Cake Syrup

Now let’s get down to the simple steps for this simple cake syrup. This process is short, sweet, and simple, and the end result brings out the very best in your homemade desserts. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started!

    1. First, combine the water, sugar, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan. I like to use one with a pouring lip to make the pouring process easier later on.
    2. Then, cook the mixture over medium heat, while stirring with a spatula, until all of the sugar is completely dissolved.
    3. After cooking, cool the syrup completely and then pour it into the squeeze bottle.
    4. Finally, drizzle the cake syrup on top of a cooled cake, bundt cake, or over a batch of cupcakes for ultimate flavor and moist texture.

    Cake Tip:

If I need to freeze cake layers to work with later on, I will drizzle each layer with this simple syrup before wrapping the cake in plastic wrap and freezing it. This will ensure even freezing for the cake layers and you still get that extra flavor and moisture after it thaws.

    Recipe Tip:

You can also use this simple syrup recipe for homemade cocktails, as well! You can either omit the flavored extract if you just want a little sweetness added or, for extra flavor, you can use an extract that will pair well with the flavors of the cocktail you want to make. Just be sure to use about half of the amount of extract when making this syrup for cocktails.

    Storing Simple Cake Syrup

Storing this cake syrup is as simple as making it! To store cake syrup just keep it in the squeeze bottle, or in a jar, and store in the fridge for up to 1 month. Label the date on the outside of the container to keep up with freshness.
