- Then, add in the confectioner’s sugar ⅓ at a time, mixing well between each addition.
- Finally, once all of the sugar has been mixed in and a smooth consistency is reached, the frosting is ready!
- To decorate: simply spread the frosting on the pastry with a cake spatula, silicone spatula, or pipe the frosting on.
- To pipe homemade frosting onto a pastry, just transfer the frosting to a pastry bag lined with a metal piping tip. Tie off the bag and cut away any excess.
Decorating Tip:
Always remember to let baked cakes and other pastries cool completely before frosting or glazing! If the pastry is still warm the frosting will not stick, it will melt and slide right off.
Storing Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting
To safely store cream cheese frosting: transfer the remaining frosting to an airtight container, mark the date on the outside, and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. To freeze cream cheese frosting: transfer the frosting to an airtight Ziploc bag and freeze the whole bag for up to 1 month. Let the frosting come to room temperature and whip again before using. Once piped onto a cake or pastry, the frosting will stay good for as long as that pastry does.
