As a busy parent, one of the best things you can do to save your sanity and to save yourself from a lot of weekly hassle is to start meal prepping! A few hours spent prepping meals on the weekend saves me a ton of time and headaches throughout the week!
It makes weekly life so much easier when I don’t have to come up with a different dinner plan every single night. After a busy day of keeping up with the kids, husband, and career, the last thing you want to hear is, “What’s for dinner?” especially if you hadn’t thought that far ahead.
Meal prepping takes out all the guesswork, cuts the recipe cook time down immensely, and saves you hours of ingredient prep during the week. And you can prepare recipes for every meal of the day: breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and even some appetizers and desserts.
For breakfast meal prep, one of my favorite foods to work with is muffins! I can bake a big batch of muffins on the weekend, freeze them, then reheat them and have them ready in just a few minutes on weekday mornings! For this kitchen hack, all you need to know is How to Freeze Muffins!
This simple meal prep method works fantastic for all kinds of muffin flavors and varieties. I’ve used this method for my Banana Oat Muffins, Apple Sharlotka Muffins, and even my Cranberry Orange Muffins!

To freeze muffins, all you need is: a batch of cooled muffins, a black sharpie, and a gallon-size Ziploc bag. First, use the sharpie to label the date on the outside of the Ziploc bag. Then, transfer the cooled muffins into the labeled bag so that they are standing up. Seal the bag while pushing on it to release the extra air. Store the bag of muffins in the freezer for up to 3 months.

How to Freeze Homemade Muffins
Now let me break down this quick and simple meal prep method so you can be on your way to a smoother, easier week! Remember to start with a batch of cooked but cooled muffins. Storing muffins while they’re still warm will affect their texture after being frozen, so keep that in mind. Here’s how to easily freeze muffins:
- First, gather the cooled muffins, the sharpie, and the Ziploc bag.
- Next, use the black sharpie to label the date on the outside of the bag.
- Then, one at a time, transfer the cooled muffins into the labeled Ziploc bag so that they are standing up.
- Seal the bag while pushing on it to release the extra air.
- Make sure the bag seals up airtight!
- Finally, transfer the bag of muffins to the freezer and store them for up to 3 months.
How to Reheat Frozen Muffins
Reheating frozen muffins is as easy as freezing them! Just grab the frozen muffins and follow one of these methods:
To reheat frozen muffins in the microwave:
- First, wrap a frozen muffin in a paper towel (optional but helpful).
- Put the wrapped muffin on a microwavable plate.
- Finally, microwave the muffin on high for 30 seconds. Add an additional 10 seconds for an additional muffin.
To reheat frozen muffins in the oven:
- First, preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Then, place the muffins back into a muffin pan (with muffin liners).
- Bake them for 10-15 minutes.
- This is one of my preferred methods since the muffins don’t turn out too soggy.
To reheat frozen muffins in the air fryer: (My preferred option!)
- First, place 1-4 muffins in the air fryer.
- Then, heat them up for 8-10 minutes at 320°F.
- With this method, the muffins come out crisp and perfect!
