As a really busy parent I live for those easy dinner recipes! Especially the ones where I just have to mix everything together real quick, throw it in the oven, and let it do its thing without needing much attention from me. One of my go-to recipes on those nights when I need something really easy is this one for my tender, juicy, and flavorful Classic Meatloaf with Sweet Glaze!

I love making this yummy meatloaf not only because it’s quick and easy to mix up, but also because it’s packed with protein and scrumptious flavors! Plus I know that it’s a very satisfying dish that will make sure everyone leaves the table with full and happy bellies.

I really like to make this for winter food to help warm up on cold nights but really this recipe can be made anytime of the year! Especially if you get a craving for it. Ready to make an easy, yet satisfying, dinner? Then let’s get started! Here’s how I make scrumptious classic meatloaf with a delicious sweet glaze!

    Easy Equipment

First, let’s talk about equipment. I don’t need much to whip this loaf into shape! I just use a few common household kitchen items so you should have everything you need. Here are the tools and materials I use to make my homemade meatloaf:

    • Bread pan 9×13 inch
    • Silicone spatula
    • Blending Whisk
    • Glass mixing bowl

    Classically Delicious Ingredients

Now let’s talk about the satisfying ingredients! I really don’t need much here either actually. Just a few of the right ingredients and seasonings and you can have a satisfying dish in no time. Here are my classic meatloaf and sweet glaze ingredients:

    Homemade Meatloaf:

    • 2 slices white bread – can use stale bread
      • Alternatively, you can use 1 cup of store-bought or Homemade Bread Crumbs

      • Remove meat from the fridge and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before cooking.
    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup yellow onion finely chopped, about 1 medium-size onion
    • 2 garlic cloves finely chopped
    • 1 tsp salt
    • ½ tsp pepper

    Sweet Glaze:

And now it’s showtime! I know you’ve got dinner to make and mouths to feed so let’s jump right into this meatloaf process! The longest part of this whole process is the baking step so you can look forward to an easy night. Here’s how to make tender and juicy classic meatloaf with sweet glaze:

    Making Classic Meatloaf:

    1. First, gather and measure out the meatloaf ingredients with the measuring cup and spoons. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
    2. Then, tear the bread slices into small pieces.
    3. Soak the bread pieces in milk for 10 minutes.
    4. Next, transfer the room temperature ground sirloin to a large mixing bowl.
    5. Then, add in the soaked bread pieces (or bread crumbs), milk, egg, onion, garlic cloves, salt, and pepper.
    6. Protect and cover your hands with some disposable vinyl gloves.
    7. Mix the meatloaf ingredients by hand until all the ingredients are completely combined and evenly mixed together.
    8. Next, cut and fold a sheet of parchment paper to fit inside a 9×13-inch bread loaf pan with the edges of the paper sticking up over the edge of the pan.
    9. Scoop the meatloaf mixture into the lined pan.
    10. Use a silicone spatula to gently press the meat down and make sure the meatloaf mixture is evenly distributed in the pan.
    11. Once the meatloaf pan is ready, grab a baking sheet and kitchen foil.
    12. Then, cover the baking sheet with the foil to catch any grease spills during the baking process.
      1. Place the meatloaf pan on top of the lined baking sheet and bake for 50 minutes.

    Sweet Glaze:

    1. First, measure out the glaze ingredients with measuring spoons.
    2. Next, pour the ketchup, Dijon mustard, vinegar, brown sugar, salt, and pepper into a medium mixing bowl.
    3. Then, combine the glaze ingredients with a blending whisk.
    4. After baking, carefully remove the meatloaf from the oven.
    5. Next, pour and evenly spread the sweet glaze over the top of the meatloaf. Bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes.
    6. After baking, make sure the internal temp of the meatloaf is 160°F.
    7. Transfer the meatloaf to a serving plate and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
      1. At this point, I like to make another batch of the sweet glaze for serving.
    8.  Finally, garnish the meatloaf with parsley, slice, serve, and enjoy!

    Storing Homemade Meatloaf

To properly store homemade meatloaf with glaze: transfer the loaf to a shallow airtight container, or wrap tightly with heavy-duty kitchen foil or plastic wrap. Store the meatloaf in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days. Always label the date on the outside of the container to keep up with freshness.
