As a busy baker bee, it’s always good to keep a few kitchen hacks or tricks up your sleeve for when you need to whip up something at any given time. It’s also a good idea to have a staple baked good that you can make by heart and that you usually keep the recipe ingredients on hand, for any kind of baking emergency. My personal staple baked sweet is the ever-versatile bundt cake! I have mastered the art of crafting unique and downright delicious bundt cakes, even in ridiculous time crunches. What’s my secret? Baking hacks like this super quick and Easy Bundt Cake Frosting!

Now I always prefer to craft my cakes and recipes totally homemade from scratch, but let’s be honest here. I’m a busy mom with my own food photography business so I don’t always have the time to put into my sweet creations as much as I’d like to. In some baking emergencies I just need to bake up a cake fast and top it with a yummy and eye-catching frosting that can be whipped up in no time, but still feels more like homemade rather than store-bought. In situations like this, all I need to do is to pull out one of my baking hacks and I’m good to go! A tub of store-bought buttercream frosting, some food coloring, and the proper kitchen utensils are all you need to make a delightfully easy bundt cake frosting in a flash!

To make an easy bundt cake frosting in a flash, all you need is a can of buttercream frosting, some food coloring, a large mixing bowl, and an electric hand mixer. Just transfer the tub of frosting to the mixing bowl and whip the frosting on medium speed for 2- 3 minutes with the hand mixer. Then, use a toothpick to add a small amount of food coloring to the frosting and mix again until the desired color is reached and well combined.

    Simple Bundt Cake Frosting Ingredients

Simple recipes usually call for simple ingredients and that’s exactly what you can expect with this one. You only need 2 ingredients, one of which is food coloring. I chose pink because that is my daughter’s favorite color, plus I like the pop that it brings to my sweet treats too, but you can swap this out for whichever color you prefer.

Whipping Up the Easiest Bundt Cake Frosting

Alright, now let’s break down the process on how to whip up this easy bundt cake frosting fast! Again, this process is super easy and quick so in just a few short minutes you will be ready to put the final touches on your kitchen masterpiece!

    1. First, transfer the tub of buttercream frosting to a large glass mixing bowl. Then, use a hand mixer to whip the frosting on medium speed for 2- 3 minutes.
      1. The icing should reach a smooth consistency.
    2. Next, use a toothpick to add a small amount of food coloring to the frosting.
    3. Finally, mix the frosting again until the desired color is reached and combined evenly in the frosting.

    Frosting Tip:

Any and all baked goods or pastries need to be completely cool before frosting them. If you try to frost pastries that are still warm, the frosting will not stick, it will only slide off the pastry.

    Storing Buttercream Frosting

Once piped onto a cake or pastry, the frosting will stay good for as long as that pastry does. However, if you need to store leftover frosting on its own then it needs to stay refrigerated. Here’s what you can do:

    • Transfer the remainder of leftover buttercream frosting to an airtight container and mark the date on the outside.
    • Store in the fridge for up to 1 week or…

To store frosting longer in the freezer:

    • Transfer the frosting to an airtight Ziploc bag.
    • Store the bag of frosting in the freezer for up to 1 month.
    • Let the frosting come to room temperature and whip again before using.

Leftover frosting that remains in the opened, store-bought container can be kept in the fridge for up to 1 year.

    • Anytime you store a tub of store-bought frosting remember to always mark the date of opening on the top of the lid. I like to date mine with a black Sharpie.
