Maybe those toasty flakes already have you thinking about a warm tropical day on the beach or maybe they take you inside on a crisp fall day where a warm stack of pancakes is waiting for you in the kitchen. Either way, if you’re a coconut fan then there’s a good chance that toasted coconut flakes bring back some good memories for you. From summertime to winter, and from sweet to savory, toasted coconut flakes are sure to stand out in whatever recipe you want to add them to. So without further ado, here’s how to easily cook up these delicious toasted coconut flakes in just a few short minutes!

To quickly cook up some toasted coconut flakes all you need is a cup of shredded coconut, a frying pan, and a silicone spatula. Just preheat the pan over medium heat, drop in the coconut, and stir frequently until the flakes reach a golden brown color.

    Easily Toasting Shredded Coconut Flakes

Alright, now it’s time to get to toasting. It’s a super quick and easy process that even beginners are sure to master in no time!

    1. First, preheat a non- stick, medium- sized frying pan over medium heat.
    2. Next, drop the shredded coconut into the preheated pan.
    3. Then, try to spread the coconut out in a thin and even layer so the flakes can toast evenly.
    4. Continue stirring the coconut flakes frequently with a heat resistant silicone spatula.
    5. After a few minutes, the coconut flakes will reach a beautiful golden brown color which means they are ready!
    6. Finally, transfer the toasted coconut flakes to a serving bowl for easy topping or serving.

    Storing Toasted Coconut Flakes

For the best crunch and freshest flavor, I recommend only preparing the amount of toasted coconut needed for a recipe or for topping. However, if you end up with some leftover or you just want to cook up a big batch, you can do that and easily store the coconut flakes for later use.

    • Just transfer the cooled, toasted coconut flakes to an airtight container, ziploc bag, or airtight jar.
    • Mark the date on the outside of the container to keep up with freshness.

    Storing options:

    • For keeping a crisper crunch, store in the pantry for up to 3 months.
    • Store in the fridge for up to 4 weeks (best for big batches).
    • For even more longevity, store these in the freezer for up to 8 months.
      • After refrigerating or freezing toasted coconut flakes, you may need to re-toast them for a few minutes before serving.
