But this creamy and rich sauce also pairs perfectly with steamed veggies or seafood like salmon.
While this scrumptious sauce may seem a bit fancy, it’s actually very easy and quick to whip together using just a food processor! And it’s made with common ingredients so this recipe is perfect for whipping up at the last minute to add a little “umph” to any meal! The main thing to keep in mind with hollandaise sauce is that it’s best served warm or at room temperature, so it needs to be the last step right before serving a meal.
Now, this sauce can be made a day or so ahead of time and be brought up to the proper temp before serving, but this recipe is so quick and easy that I recommend just making a fresh batch each time you want to enjoy some. Especially if you’re trying to impress dinner guests. Here’s how to make my Easy Hollandaise Sauce.
To make easy hollandaise sauce, all you need is: a food processor, egg yolks, lemon juice, salt, cayenne pepper, and butter. First, melt the butter and separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Then, pour the yolks, lemon juice, salt, and cayenne pepper into a food processor. Secure the lid and mix the ingredients together at high speed until they’re completely combined. Next, drop the speed down to low. Remove the lid opening and slowly pour in the melted butter, while still mixing on low. Keep mixing until all of the ingredients are fully combined. Finally, serve and enjoy!

As far as the ingredients go, you’re in for quite a surprise! My simple saucy recipe only requires 5 common ingredients! Here are my yummy hollandaise sauce ingredients:
- 3 Egg yolks
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp Cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup butter– melted
How to Make Easy Hollandaise Sauce
Now it’s time for the fun part! My simple sauce process only takes a few minutes and it’s so simple to do that even beginners can get the hang of it right away. Here’s how to make irresistible homemade hollandaise sauce:
- First, measure out all of the hollandaise sauce ingredients with the measuring spoons, and melt the butter in the microwave.
- Next, grab the eggs and 2 mixing bowls.
- Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites using the separate bowls.
- Next, prepare a food processor, using the smaller cups of the food processor (3 cups) and remove the entire lid.
- Then, pour the egg yolks, lemon juice, salt, and cayenne pepper into the bottom of the processor. Secure the lid and mix the ingredients together at high speed in the processor until they’re completely combined.
- Next, drop the speed down to low. Remove the opening of the processor lid and slowly pour in the melted butter, while still mixing on low.
- Keep mixing until all of the ingredients are fully combined.
- Finally, pour the hollandaise sauce into a jar for storage or serve immediately on Steamed Asparagus.
Storing Hollandaise Sauce
To store hollandaise sauce: transfer it to an airtight container, label the date on the outside, and store in the fridge for up to 2 days. To freeze hollandaise sauce: transfer it to a Ziploc bag, label the date on the outside, and freeze flat. Store frozen hollandaise sauce for up to 1 month. Thaw in the fridge overnight before heating slightly to room temp.
To reheat hollandaise sauce: pour the sauce into a microwave-safe bowl and set the microwave power to 20%. Heat up the sauce in 10-second increments, stirring well after each increment, until the hollandaise sauce is reheated to room temp, but not overheated.
How much lemon juice is in one lemon:
One medium-size lemon contained 1 tablespoon of lemon zest and 2-3 tablespoons of lemon juice.
1 lemon = 1 tbsp lemon zest
1 lemon = 2-3 lemon juice
Lemon extract alternative:
1 tsp of lemon extract = 2 tsp lemon zest
