If you love to bake then you probably already know that many delightful homemade pastry recipes call for mashed bananas. Well, did you know that you can actually store those mashed bananas for later? Whether you mashed too many bananas for a recipe or you just want to do the prep work ahead of time, it’s easy to store those leftover mashed bananas!
When I decided to experiment and see just how long mashed bananas can be stored, I decided to try 2 slightly different storing methods. The results ended up being slightly different but mostly the same. One method involves the outer wrapping touching the surface of the bananas, while the other method just involves wrapping the whole bowl.
Both of these banana storage methods made the bananas brown at the top after some time. However, even though both methods left me with slightly browned tops, the mashed bananas were still good enough to use in a recipe within a few days. Here’s what I found while figuring out How to Store Mashed Bananas:
Mashed Banana Storage Method 1:
To store mashed bananas:

- Label the date on the outside of the container and store in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Storage Results:
The brown layer was darker and less thick.
Mashed Banana Storage Method 2:
To store mashed bananas:
- First, transfer the mashed banana to an airtight container.
- Then, cover the top of the bowl tightly with food wrap.
- Label the date on the outside of the container and store in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Storage Results:
The brown layer was less dark and thicker.
How to Freeze Mashed Bananas:
To freeze mashed bananas:
