How to Cook Shrimp in Microwave

When it comes to making scrumptious homemade dishes like casseroles, salads, or pasta, there are some simple ways to add a little more pep and excitement to the recipes. One of my favorite ways to add a little “umph” and a tasty crunch to my recipes is with my quick and easy Homemade Bread Crumbs!

Making my own bread crumbs is a total win-win situation since I get to add some crunch to my recipes while also using up leftover bread that has gone stale. As a matter of fact, it’s actually preferred to use stale bread for bread crumbs since it has already dried out a bit and becomes crunchy quicker and easier.

That makes this one of the most useful stale bread recipes out there! You can even use bread that’s been sitting in the freezer, just as long as you completely defrost it at room temperature before starting the bread crumb process. Well, what about adding flavor, you ask? That’s easy to do too!

These plain bread crumbs are perfect for just adding a crunch to some pasta or for using as a crunchy coating. But if you want to add some different flavors, all you need is some seasonings to mix in! Depending on your recipe you could use Italian, Cajun, or whatever pairs well with your dish.

This recipe especially comes in handy when you decide at the last minute to make crunchy-coated chicken or something similar, but you don’t want to go to the store just for bread crumbs. We’ve all been there! Basically, whenever and whatever you want to add these crunchy bread crumbs to, it’s sure to add a little “umph” to any dish! Here’s how I make my easy Homemade Bread Crumbs!

To make easy homemade bread crumbs, all you need is: bread slices (can be stale), a food processor, baking sheet, and parchment paper. First, preheat the oven to 300°F. Then, tear the bread slices into smaller pieces and transfer to a food processor. Chop the bread pieces on low for 2 minutes. Then, spread the chopped bread pieces over a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 5-10 minutes, or until completely dry. If finer crumbs are desired, just run them through the food processor again.

    Easy Equipment and Ingredient

First, let’s go over the kitchen equipment and ingredients that I use to whip up these crunchy little bits. For this simple recipe, I only need the help of a few baking tools and just 1 ingredient! Of course, you can add seasoning if desired but these turn out pretty good all on their own. Here’s what I use to make homemade bread crumbs:

    Equipment:

    • Baking sheet
    • Parchment paper sheets
    • Food processor (optional but very useful)

    Ingredient:

    • 5 slices of white bread – stale bread can be used

How to Make Homemade Bread Crumbs

Now let me break down this incredibly easy process! The whole process is really simple to follow along with and should only take a few minutes from start to finish so let’s get right to it. Here’s how to make homemade bread crumbs:

    1. First, preheat the oven to 300°F.
    2. Next, tear the bread slices into manageable pieces and transfer them to a food processor.
      1. If you don’t have a food processor, you can alternatively cut or tear the bread into ¾-inch or smaller cubes or small bits.
    3. Use the processor to “chop” the bread pieces for 2 minutes on low.
      1. If you are going to add seasoning, this is the step to do it in.
    4. Then, line a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper.
    5. Spread the chopped bread crumbs over the lined baking sheet, then bake them for 5-10 minutes or until they are completely dry and crunchy.
    6. After baking, let the bread crumbs cool completely. If finer bread crumbs are needed, put the bread crumbs through the food processor again.
    7. Finally, transfer the bread crumbs to a mason jar or an airtight container to store in the fridge.
