One of the best inventions by far, in this busy mother’s opinion, is the instant pot! This bad boy has been a huge lifesaver for me more times than I can count! After long chaotic days, it’s the best feeling in the world to do just a little bit of food prep then let the pressure cooker do the rest of the work and still have dinner ready in under 30 minutes.
If you like the pressure cooker as much as I do then you are going to love this little potato trick I have to share with you! I’m going to show you how to cook whole potatoes in the instant pot in less than 20 minutes. Yes, whole potatoes are ready in under 20 minutes! You can’t do that kind of thing in the oven.
It starts with a simple wash and peel process, then the potatoes just go in the cooker for a few minutes with some water, and ta-da! Soft and scrumptious potatoes ready for anything! These turn out to look like skinless baked potatoes that can be used for any kind of potato recipe.
Use these cooked potatoes for anything like mashed potatoes, potato salad, potato soup, or just serve as skinless baked potatoes with your favorite toppings! To cook whole potatoes in an instant pot, all you need is: an instant pot, silicone roasting rack, peeler, potatoes, and water. First, wash and peel the potatoes. Next, place the silicone insert in the pot. Place the potatoes in the cooker, then add the water. Seal the cooker lid and cook for 10 minutes. Let the pot sit for 5 minutes, then release the pressure and remove the lid. Make sure potatoes are soft all the way through, then remove them and serve as desired!

How to Cook Whole Potatoes in the Instant Pot
Now let’s break down the steps! This quick potato process is super easy and takes less than 20 minutes so you can have dinner ready in a flash! Here’s how to cook quick and easy whole potatoes in the instant pot:
- First, prepare and measure out all of the ingredients with the measuring cup and spoons. Then, wash and peel all of the potatoes with the swivel peeler.
- Next, place the silicone pressure cooker insert into the bottom of the instant pot (pressure cooker).
- Place the potatoes in the cooker, then add the water.
- Seal the cooker lid and pressure cook the potatoes for 10 minutes.
- After cooking, let the cooker sit for 5 minutes before messing with the lid. Then, open the valve and remove the lid. Use a butter knife to check that the potatoes are soft all the way through.
- Finally, remove the potatoes and serve as desired!
Storing Instant Pot Potatoes
To store peeled and cooked potatoes: first, transfer them to an airtight container or Ziploc bag. Label the date on the outside of the container. Store the potatoes in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
