How to Cook Shrimp in Microwave

Most of us are familiar with facing the challenge of trying to feed our families healthy food the way we really want to amidst a continuously busy schedule. It can be especially challenging if you happen to have any picky eaters in your house. I, personally, love a very diverse range of foods and am not really a picky eater. However, on the other hand, my daughter can be a bit picky sometimes and my husband is a vegetarian. So I’m always trying to find a balance between finding and making recipes that everyone will enjoy while managing the daily chaos of running my food photography business, catching up on errands, and taking my daughter to figure skating practice.

This is where simple and quick recipes, like this classic guacamole, come in and really play a big helping hand. Not only is guacamole super easy to throw together in a time crunch, but it is also one of the most flavorful and healthy snacks that you can make for your family! And by combining all the irresistible flavors of avocado, garlic, onion, tomato, cilantro, and jalapenos, you get a snack that’s so delectable everyone at the table will gobble it up! This classic guacamole dish is perfect to serve with tortilla chips or added to some of your favorite dinner recipes to add a new flavorful kick.

How to Make Classic Guacamole Using only Fresh Ingredients

Alright, now it’s time for the fun part! Let’s get on to the steps of making this healthy and flavorful classic guacamole.

    1. First, gather the fresh guacamole ingredients and round up the tools.
    2. Then, start the process by cutting all the avocados in half and removing their pits.
    3. Scoop the avocados into a large glass mixing bowl and use a potato masher to mash them up.
    4. Next, use a kitchen knife to finely dice the purple onion on the cutting board and then drop them into the bowl of mashed avocado.
    5. Then, dice the tomatoes into very small chunks and drop them into the bowl of avocado.
    6. Chop the cilantro as finely as possible and drop it into the bowl also.
    7. Next, use the corer to remove the cores of the jalapenos. Chop both of the peppers into small bits and drop them in.
    8. Then, use the garlic press to cut the garlic cloves into perfectly- sized garlic bits and drop them into the guacamole bowl.
    9. Cut both of the limes in half and use a lemon squeezer to squeeze fresh lime juice into the guacamole mix. Add in the salt.
    10. Finally, mix everything together with a silicone spatula and this guac is ready to be devoured!

    Storing Homemade Guacamole

If you’ve ever bought guacamole from the store then you’re probably familiar with just how fast it can turn brown. You pick some guacamole up from the store, eat a little, and then save the rest for tomorrow. Then, tomorrow comes and you go to check it out and there is already a layer of brown over the entire top surface. Ew! It looks gross, I know. But there is actually a way to store fresh guacamole for a few days without having to worry about that happening quite as fast! Here’s what to do:

    • First, transfer the homemade guacamole to an airtight container.
    • Then, use a spoon to flatten the surface of the guac and remove any air pockets.
    • Gently pour about a half inch of water on top of the guacamole surface so that it covers it completely.
      • This step keeps the avocados in the guacamole from turning brown too quickly because of the reduced exposure to air.
    • Cover the container tightly with the lid or with plastic food wrap and refrigerate it for up to 2 or 3 days.
    • When it’s time to serve, just carefully pour off the top water and give the guacamole a good stir.
