How to Make Homemade Chocolate Graham Crackers
We know what materials to grab and what ingredients we’ll be working with, so now all that is needed is the process. All you have to do is just follow along while I break it down step by step for you.
- First, gather up and measure out all of the graham cracker ingredients you will need for this recipe.
- Next, pour the wheat flour, salt, baking soda, and cocoa powder into a large glass mixing bowl and combine them together with a blending whisk.
- Then, in a separate large mixing bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar together using an electric hand mixer.
- Drop in the vanilla extract, milk, and honey to the butter mixture. You may need a silicone spatula to help scoop the honey into the bowl.
- Beat the wet ingredient mixture again until everything is well incorporated.
- Next, add the dry ingredient mixture into the butter mixture ⅓ at a time, mixing well with the mixer between each addition.
- Then, use your hands to finish mixing the ingredients together and work any leftover floury bits into the dough.
- Shape the dough into a thick disk shape and use your hands to flatten the top and bottom of the dough ball disk.
- Afterwards, wrap the dough completely with food safe cellophane wrap and let it chill in the fridge for 2 hours.
- After the dough has properly chilled, preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a flat surface with a cocoa powder and flour mixture, then unwrap the dough and place it on the lightly floured surface.
- I break down my flouring surface steps just below these process steps if you need a little more insight on what exactly I did there.
- Next, use the adjustable rolling pin to roll out and flatten the dough down to ⅛ inch thick.
- Then, use the star- shaped cookie cutters to cut out the star- shaped dough graham cookies.
- Make sure to poke several holes in the dough stars with a fork to keep the graham crackers from puffing up while baking.
- Transfer the dough stars to several baking sheets lined with parchment paper sheets.
- Finally, bake the homemade graham crackers for 8- 10 minutes. Then, let them cool completely and serve!
Preparing the flouring surface:
- To prepare the flouring surface, first pour the ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder and the ¼ cup all-purpose flour into a clean mixing bowl.
- Then, whisk the 2 ingredients together.
Lastly, use a sifter to evenly distribute the flouring mixture over a clean, flat surface.

- Baked graham crackers can be frozen (for up to 3 months) and then thawed out for later enjoyment if desired, however this process does affect the quality of the crackers somewhat so I recommend sticking to pantry storage.
