Marble Background for Food Photography

Over my years of experimenting with baked sweets and treats, one thing I have learned is that it’s super easy to use simple materials and ingredients to make homemade recipes unique and flavorful. One of my favorite ways to easily add something special to my treats is with crushed candies.

Crushing candies is super easy and quick to do and it takes treats like my Peppermint Cupcakes to the next level! Not only do they add a little pleasant crunch to the treat, but they also bump up the flavor big time! These candy bits can be added to cupcakes, cakes, cookies, or whatever you want to add them to.

Now, I know the next question in your mind is probably “What about the mess?” Well, I’m happy to tell you that my candy-crushing method is absolutely mess-free and the cleanup is almost nonexistent! It just takes a few tools, materials, and minutes to make these crunchy dessert add-ins. Here’s my mess-free method for How to Crush Candies.

To crush hard candies without making a mess, all you need is hard candy, a gallon Ziploc bag, a rolling pin, a cutting board, and a spider strainer. First, pour the candies into the Ziploc bag, remove the air, and seal it. Place the bag on a cutting board and use a rolling pin to roll over the candies until they are crushed into tiny pieces. Then, cut one corner of the bag and pour the crushed candies through the strainer to separate the large pieces from the small ones.

    1. First, gather up all of the candy-crushing materials.
    2. Then, pour the hard candy into a gallon Ziploc bag. Flatten the bag to remove all the air and zip it to seal.
    3. Next, put the bag of candy on a cutting board, or flat surface, and use a rolling pin to roll over the candies until they’re crushed into tiny little pieces.
    4. Then, cut off a corner from the bottom of the bag.

    Crushed Candy Storage

To store crushed candy bits: pour the remaining crushed candies into an airtight jar or Ziploc bag. Store at room temperature, outside of the sun’s warmth, for up to 1 year. Always label the date on the outside of the container to keep up with freshness.
