When it comes to making your homemade cupcakes and sweets stand out, there’s actually a few simple things you can do that can make big difference! Things like making a unique frosting flavor, using a piping bag with a metal tip to frost with, and making easy edible cupcake toppers are all little things that add big “umph” to any homemade treat!

I try to always get fun and flavorful with my frostings, but my favorite way to make my cupcakes stand out is with my easy homemade cupcake toppers. One of my new favorite simple cupcake topper recipes is this one for my Easy Caramel Cupcake Toppers!

For this cute and crunchy cupcake topping I just make some simple caramel, drizzle it over a silicone mold, and let it set. These are super easy to make but still add a fancy look to cupcakes, ice cream sundaes, or on a pile of whipped cream in your favorite hot beverage!

I first tried these crunchy cuties on my Dulce de Leche Cupcakes, and they were perfect! Those cupcakes had a gorgeous presentation, and the flavors were absolutely dreamy! As soon as I made these caramel toppers for that first batch, I knew they would become a favorite of mine.

Whatever you want to add these crunchy caramel cupcake toppers to, they’re sure to add all the “umph” your homemade treats need! Here’s how to make my delectable Easy Caramel Cupcake Toppers.

To make easy caramel cupcake toppers, all you need is: sugar, vanilla extract, water, a semi-sphere mold, and some kitchen utensils. First, add the sugar and vanilla into a saucepan, but do not mix the ingredients. Cook the ingredients over medium-high, while brushing the inside edge of the pan with water. Boil the caramel for 5-8 minutes. Place a semi-sphere silicone mold upside down on top of a sheet of parchment paper. Drizzle the caramel over the upside-down mold. Once hardened, gently separate the caramel toppers from the mold and use them to decorate cupcakes or other desserts.

    Cupcake Topper Equipment

Let’s start this little kitchen project by going over the equipment needed for this easy recipe. There’s not a lot needed here, just a few common kitchen tools along with a silicone mold and you’ll be good to go! Here’s everything I use to make my crunchy caramel cupcake toppers:

    • Measuring Cup
    • Measuring spoons
    • Silicone pastry brush
    • Saucepan with a pouring lip
    • Saucier Drizzle Spoon
    • Semi-sphere silicone mold

    Caramel Cupcake Topper Ingredients

Now, onto the ingredient list. As far as these go, my caramel cupcake topper recipe only calls for 3 sweet and simple ingredients! Here’s what I use to make my easy caramel toppers:

    • 1 cup sugar
    • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 cup water

How to Make Cute, Crunchy, Easy Caramel Cupcake Toppers

Now let’s get to the main feature: making easy caramel cupcake toppers! This process is super easy to follow along with so I even encourage the beginner bakers to give this one a try! Here’s how to make my easy caramel cupcake toppers:

    1. First, measure out the caramel cupcake topper ingredients with the measuring cup and spoons.
    2. Add the sugar and vanilla extract into a small saucepan, but do not mix the ingredients.
    3. Over medium-high, heat the ingredients to boiling while brushing the inside edge of the pan with water to avoid caramelization building up on the sides.
    4. Boil the caramel for 5-8 minutes, until the color is a medium umber.
    5. Next, lay out a sheet of parchment paper. Place a semi-sphere silicone mold upside down on top of the parchment.
    6. Use a saucier spoon to drizzle the hot caramel over the upside-down mold.
    7. Once hardened, grab a plate or tray to set your caramel toppers on.
    8. Then, gently separate the caramel toppers from the mold without breaking them.
      1. I suggest using disposable gloves for this step.
    9. Finally, use the caramel toppers to decorate cupcakes, ice cream, or other desserts!

    Storing Cupcake Toppers

To store caramel cupcake toppers: first, line an airtight container with a little bit of parchment paper. Put the hardened caramel toppers on top of the parchment and close the container. Store at room temperature, or a little cooler, for up to 5 days. Label the date on the outside of the container. Do not store desserts with the caramel toppers still on top or they will melt!
