Isn’t it just about heartbreaking to buy a package of big, beautiful strawberries only to have half of them go bad and turn into mush within just a couple of days? Well I have some good news for you! There are a few easy methods that can be used to keep those newly- bought strawberries fresh and gorgeous for much longer. One of the most common of these strawberry- saving methods is a vinegar bath, which can make your strawberries last for 7 days!

This particular vinegar bath method is the one that I have actually used for many years. I have just always thought it was the most practical overall. Even after trying out a few other strawberry- saving methods I still found that this particular method is extremely useful and in some cases it’s actually the preferred method. For example, in baking situations where you need the strawberry to remain whole, this is really the best method to use. However, there are other methods that work better for other situations. For today though, we will focus only on this vinegar bath method. Here is how to keep those beautiful strawberries fresh with vinegar!

So what is a vinegar bath made of? Yeah, you probably guessed it! It is exactly what it sounds like it would be, vinegar and water. Oh and don’t forget the strawberries!

    • ¼ cup white vinegar

How to Keep Strawberries Fresh with Vinegar

Keeping your strawberries at the top of their game with this vinegar method is super easy and super quick! I am excited to share this little kitchen trick with you so that the next time you grab those mouth watering strawberries you can skip the heartbreak and head straight into fresh, fruity, bliss. Here is how to easily keep strawberries fresh using vinegar.

    1. First, gather the equipment, strawberries, and other ingredients.
    2. Next, use a measuring cup to measure out ¼ cup of white vinegar and then 2 cups of cold water. Mix the vinegar and water into a large glass mixing bowl, then add in the strawberries.
    3. Let the strawberries soak in their vinegar bath for about 5 minutes. Then, transfer the strawberries to a spider strainer and rinse under cold water.
    4. After rinsing, move the strawberries to a baking sheet lined with paper towels. Dry off the strawberries as best you can with another paper towel or 2, then let the berries sit to finish drying completely.
    5. Once the strawberries are dry, line a glass storage bowl with another paper towel and place the strawberries inside. Cover the top of the bowl with Press N’ Seal food wrap and store in the fridge until you’re ready to use them.
      1. These prepared strawberries will stay fresh for 7 days.

    Kitchen Tips:

    • If you have a salad spinner in your home kitchen then you can use it to speed up the drying process without damaging the strawberries.
    • If you run into some strawberries that have a little bit of rot on them, you don’t have to toss them out! Just cut off the bad spot and freeze the good part for later use.
