I love keeping fresh apples in my kitchen for everything from apple recipes to healthy snacks! But as any apple lover knows, once you slice up that tasty treat, the freshness clock starts ticking. It doesn’t take long before those delicious apple slices start to turn colors.

By now, you may have heard of the lemon juice with water technique to keep the apple slices from browning. While that method does help prolong the life and freshness of the apple slices, it also changes the flavor of the fruit a bit.

So I started experimenting to find out if there was a way to keep my apple slices fresh without having to change the flavor. Luckily for both you and me, I did find one! By using a fruit protector powder, I was able to keep my apple slices from turning brown for several days without affecting the flavor of the apples at all!

Now I can prepare my apple slices ahead of time for quick lunch box packing, recipes, or for my Provolone and Apple Grilled Cheese without having to worry about my fruit turning brown before I can use it up. Here’s How to Keep Apple Slices from Browning.

To keep apple slices from browning, all you need is: a large mixing bowl, water, Ball Fruit Fresh Produce Protector, and some apple slices. First, measure out the water and the fruit protector powder. Then mix the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. Push the apple slices into the water and let them soak for about 5 minutes. Scoop the apple slices out and rinse under cold water. Finally, transfer the slices to an airtight container or Ziploc bag for storage.
