Dulce de leche just has a way of rolling off the tongue and sounding exquisite! So something like Dulce de Leche Buttercream Frosting sounds like it’s going to send your taste buds on a luxurious vacation! And you’re absolutely right, it does!

If you’re not sure what that is, dulce de leche is a Spanish phrase for caramelized or sweetened milk. So this frosting is like the top tier of ultimate creamy caramel flavors! I first tried this frosting on my Dulce de Leche Cupcakes, and they turned out to be some of the most divine desserts I’ve ever tasted!

The best part is that those fancy cupcakes were way easier to make than you probably think. All it took was making this simple, and scrumptious Dulce de Leche Buttercream Frosting and some crunchy Easy Caramel Cupcake Toppers, and there they were… the perfect caramel lover’s dream dessert!

Those decadent cupcakes had a stunning presentation, and the caramel-y flavors were absolutely dreamy! But this dulce de leche frosting doesn’t have to be saved for that cupcake recipe in particular. You can make this dreamy frosting for any other cupcake flavor you want to pair it with!

Ready to see what all this fabulous frosting fuss is about? Then let’s get this baking party started! Here’s how to make dreamy and delectable Dulce de Leche Buttercream Frosting.

To make dulce de leche buttercream frosting, all you need is: unsalted butter, a can of dulce de leche, powdered sugar, and some kitchen utensils. First, beat the butter by itself in a stand mixer until it has doubled in size. Then, add in half of the can of dulce de leche and mix the ingredients again. Add in the powdered sugar and beat again for 8-10 minutes. Finally, transfer the frosting to a piping bag lined with a piping tip and close it off with a bag tie. Now you’re ready to decorate!

    Storing Dulce de Leche Frosting

To store dulce de leche frosting: first, transfer the frosting to an airtight container or a freezer-safe Ziploc bag. Store the frosting in the fridge for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 3 months. If freezing, I like to double-bag the frosting because it helps save some space. Label the date on the outside to keep up with freshness. Remember to bring the frosting to room temperature and whip it again before using.
