Candy Coating Equipment
This simple, sweet and salty, Easter dessert recipe only requires a few common baking tools along with some helpful candy making equipment to make this easy baking project run smoothly.
- Wilton candy melts pot
- Spatulas
- Piping bags
- Piping bag ties
- Baking sheets
- Parchment paper sheets
- Tall Dipping Container
Kitchen Tip:
I specifically like using my candy melt pot over all other melting methods, including the microwave, for any kind of candy-making projects. It keeps the chocolate at the perfect temperature through the whole process. Plus the silicone lining is super easy to clean and there are no overcooked bits of candy to try and scrape off later.
Irresistible Sweet and Salty Ingredients
Just about everybody knows that the sweet and salty combination is not only delectable, it’s downright irresistible! This is one of those delightful recipes that really brings the two flavors together in a charming Easter fashion.

How to Make Homemade Chocolate Covered Pretzel Carrots
I’ve told you how easy and fun this recipe is to do and I know that by now you are ready to get down to some candy-making business so let’s do that. Here is how to make your very own chocolate-covered pretzel rod carrots!
- First, prepare and measure out all of your ingredients. Then, go ahead and line a baking sheet with a parchment paper sheet or wax paper.
- Make sure the baking sheet you choose can fit flat in your freezer or fridge.
- Next, combine the green candy melts and the coconut oil in the candy melting pot.
- Melt them together on high and stir regularly with a heat resistant spatula.
- Then, when the green candy has melted, transfer it to a piping bag and tie it off with a piping bag tie. Then, cut away the excess part of the bag and cut ¼ inch from the tip of the bag for easy drizzling.
- Draw out several leafy carrot tops, one for each pretzel rod, onto the parchment- lined baking sheet. Then, let the candies harden either in the fridge for 15 minutes or in the freezer for about 7-10 minutes.
- Next, rinse out and dry the silicone lining of the melting pot. Then, combine the orange candy melts and the coconut oil.
- Prepare another baking sheet with more parchment paper.
- Melt them together on high and stir regularly with a heat resistant spatula.
- After the orange candy has melted completely, pour it into a tall dipping container.
- Then, dip each pretzel rod into the melted orange candy and let the extra chocolate drip back into the container, then spread the pretzels out over the parchment- lined baking sheet so they don’t touch. Then, transfer the remainder of melted orange candy to a piping bag and tie it off with a piping bag tie. Cut ⅛ inch from the tip of the bag for easy drizzling.
- If the melted candy has started to harden, then reheat it to a liquid consistency before transferring to the piping bag.
- If you do not let the extra chocolate drip after dipping the pretzel rods, then they will end up with a big blob of chocolate at the tip and look more like a lollipop.
- Finally, once the first layer of orange candy has hardened, drizzle another layer of orange over the pretzel rods. Then, squeeze a little melted candy to the back of one of the homemade leafy tops and stick it to the base of a carrot pretzel rod. Repeat for all of the remaining pretzel rods.
- Finally, let the candied pretzel rods harden completely by setting them in the fridge for 10 minutes. Then, these Easter cuties are ready to serve and enjoy!
- Alternatively, you can leave the candied pretzels at room temperature to harden if you don’t want to use the faster fridge method.
Storing Candied Pretzel Rods
Whether you are making these ahead of time for Easter or you need to save some afterwards, it is actually pretty easy to store some for later. If you’re wrapping these up for party favors, try using some of these food-safe party favor bags.
- Transfer the candy- coated pretzel rods to an airtight container.
- You don’t want to store these in a bag due to the danger of the chocolate accidently chipping.
- If desired, you can separate layers with a sheet of parchment or wax paper to keep the rods from sticking together.
- Mark the date on the outside of the container.
- Store at room temperature or slightly cooler for 2- 3 weeks.
- I do not recommend storing these candied pretzel rods long-term in the fridge or the freezer due to the potential of the pretzels softening or going stale from moisture.
