Chocolate Cookies with Peppermint Chips

Valentine’s Day is a day filled with hearts, kisses, sweets, treats, and, for some of us, baking. For busy home-bakers we have our hands so full with balancing batter and frosting (and kids) that we need a quick way to add a delightful holiday touch to our finished treats. What could be a more lovely addition to any Valentine’s desserts than these lip and heart-shaped chocolate decorations? These candies are super easy and quick to make. Just a few ingredients and a few minutes and you’ll have the most adorable Valentine’s candy decorations to pep up any treat or dessert.

Hearts and Lips Ingredients and Equipment

To make these cute Valentine-themed dessert decorations you need only two food ingredients:

    • Red candy melts

Coconut oil –if coconut oil is not available use canola oil.

I told you, only a few ingredients and a few minutes. Easy peasy -right? Well, Yes! If you have the right tools for the job too. For this recipe, you’ll want to grab these items to make this process quick and easy:

    • Lips and hearts silicone mold
    • Spatulas
    • Candy melts pot

I specifically like using my candy melt pot over other melting methods because it truly makes the entire process so much easier! From cooking to storage and cleaning up, it was made for this kind of task. In other methods I have used, I have run into problems with the candy heating or cooling too much. Not only does the candy melt pot heat the candy to the perfect temperature but it keeps it at the appropriate temp through the whole process. That is critical for these little Valentine’s gems to turn out right.

To make quick and easy homemade Valentine’s candy all you need is a bag of candy melts, coconut oil, a silicone mold, some spatulas, and a candy-melting pot. Just melt the candies and oil together in the melting pot, pour melted candy into a mold, scrape off excess chocolate, and freeze flat.

Quick, Easy Method for Homemade Valentine Candies

Now that you have your candy-making ingredients and tools ready, you are only a few minutes away from having charming Valentine’s candy decor. Are you ready for this super simple process?

    • Heat the candy melts with the coconut oil -or canola oil, if that is what you are using.
    • Distribute melted candy into silicone mold and remove extra melted chocolate with a cake spatula.
    • Freeze flat! I put my chocolate mold on a small baking sheet before going into the freezer to keep the candy flat while freezing .

I mean super simple, right? Just be sure to cut any extra edges away from the hardened candy for a clean, neat appearance. Read over my recipe card for my exact steps and process in detail. As I said previously, keep in mind that it is critical to keep the candy from heating or cooling too much in the process.

Some for Now, Some for Later

Couldn’t get all of your melted chocolate to fit in the mold? No problem! Leftover chocolate can be saved for later.

    • Just stick the chocolatey silicone liner from the melting pot into the freezer for 10 minutes.
    • Remove from the freezer and break apart into pieces.
    • Store the leftover chocolate pieces in a plastic Ziploc bag and use later.
