Anyone who cooks at home is probably familiar with using fresh parsley and the trouble that usually comes with trying to store it for later. You know how it goes. You buy a beautiful bunch of parsley, use it for dinner that night, and store the rest for later. But then, when you go to use it again a day or two later, it’s already wilted and very, very questionable.
I know how frustrating it can be to feel like you just wasted both your food and your money at the same time. But don’t fret! I have a hassle-saving kitchen hack that will keep this from happening ever again!
It turns out that there are actually several different ways to store fresh parsley that can help extend its shelf life. After experimenting with several of them, I found one particular method that I believe is the best one and will be sticking with from now on.
Here’s the basic rule to follow: treat fresh parsley like fresh flowers. Yep, you heard that right! Herbs like parsley (and cilantro) are living plants, even after being cut, and should be stored like flowers to help them alive and stay fresh for longer!
With this simple, hassle-free method, fresh parsley can stay fresh for up to 10 days! That’s a huge difference compared to just leaving them in the produce wrap and hoping for the best, or even better than wrapping the parsley in damp paper towels.
Skip the waste and make your food last longer! Here’s my simple method on How to Store Fresh Parsley!
To store fresh parsley, all you need is: fresh parsley, water, a mason jar, kitchen scissors, and a ziploc gallon bag. First, use the kitchen scissors to cut off 1 inch of the parsley stems from the bottom. Then, fill a mason jar ¾ full of water. Place the freshly cut parsley in the jar of water like a bouquet of flowers. Make sure all of the stem tips are submerged. Finally, place an opened ziploc gallon bag over the top of the parsley, label the date on it, and store in the fridge for up to 10 days.
