My daughter absolutely loves anything and everything to do with unicorns, rainbows, sparkles, and, of course, fairy tales. She’s always inspiring me to get creative with my baking by requesting treats made in those exciting and colorful themes. Between you and me, those are my favorite treats to make!
I love seeing my daughter’s face light up when she gets those first glances at her custom birthday cakes and sweet treats! I just made a few colorful changes to my original Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix and voila! I crafted literally the perfect birthday party favors for a unicorn or any fairy tale-themed party imaginable! These jars are so quick and easy to make and they were a huge hit with my daughter’s friends!

First, let me go over my gift jar equipment. There’s nothing fancy or complicated to expect here, just some typical baking equipment and some crafty decorating materials. Here’s what I use to make unicorn hot chocolate mix:
- Measuring Cup
- Measuring spoons
- 1 Blending whisk
- Sifter
- Glass mixing bowl
- 1 Piping bag
- 8 Drinking jars
- 12 x 12 Double-Sided Unicorns & Rainbows paper
- Pink Satin Ribbon 5/8 inch

Now let me break down the sweet and simple ingredients list! This recipe is enough to make 8 gift jars but you can easily double the recipe for a larger group. Here are my favorite ingredients for unicorn hot chocolate mix:
- 2 cups powdered milk
- 1 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp Vanilla Powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup Unicorn Chocolate Chips
- ½ cup Unicorn Sprinkles
- ½ bag Unicorn Marshmallow Twist 3.53 oz bag
How to Make Unicorn Hot Chocolate Mix
Now let’s have some fun! It’s time to get crafty and make some kitchen magic happen. The best part is how simple and quick it is to make these charming little gift jars. Here’s how I make unicorn hot chocolate mix gift jars and how to prepare them to serve:
- First, gather up all of the unicorn hot cocoa mix ingredients.
- Next, position a sifter in a large glass mixing bowl.
- Then, pour the powdered milk, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla powder, and salt into the sifter and sift the ingredients together in the large bowl.
- Discard any large clumps left in the sifter.
- Use a blending whisk to mix the ingredients well.
- Make sure all cocoa mix ingredients are fully incorporated and combined.
- Then, gather the drinking jars and materials.
- Use one of the jar lids to trace 8 circles on the Unicorns & Rainbows paper, then carefully cut them out.
- Next, cut off the tip from a piping bag, then insert the piping bag into one of the drinking jars.
- Carefully scoop about ½ cup of hot cocoa mix into the jar using the piping bag as a funnel.
- Next, scoop some Unicorn chocolate chips on top of the hot cocoa mix.
- Then, pile on some of the Unicorn Sprinkles.
- Finish off the unicorn hot cocoa mix with some Unicorn Marshmallow Twists. Repeat this process for all of the remaining jars.
- Finally, add the paper cut-outs to the jar lids, add some cute ribbons to the jar, and you’re ready to gift!
How to Prepare Homemade Unicorn Hot Chocolate
- First, remove the lid and decorations from the jar of hot cocoa mix.
- Then, fill the jar by pouring either hot water in with the mix.
- Mix with a spoon until everything in the hot chocolate mix dissolves.
